With summer coming to a close, it’s time to prepare for guests to be entertained inside. The kitchen is usually the most sought out room for entertaining especially when the bar is incorporated into the kitchen layout. To prepare for the Fall, you should consider designing a bar in or near your kitchen; or basement for larger social gatherings.
Design Ideas and Options:
Wine racks are always a must have in the bar for many reasons. Besides being able to store bottles comfortably, wine racks serve as a decorative area which really highlights the feel of what a bar is. If you are limited in space, or do not drink wine too often, you can use wine cubby slots which can serve multiple functions. With the wine slots, you have the flexibility of adding small drawers or wicker baskets in the cubby holes if you are out of wine or just want to use them for other storage.
Glass doors are essential to any bar, and should be number one on the list when designing. Glass doors add flair and meaning to any bar, but also allow your guests to see what’s inside. This is a great place to display liquors, glasses, and display items. Glass doors make it easy to find and serve items quickly for you and your guests.
Stem glass holders are another way to store glasses if you don’t want to take up room inside the cabinet. They can be installed underneath any wall cabinet, but are usually placed below the glass door cabinet and/or installed beneath the cabinet over the bar sink.
Bar sinks are very common to have in any bar. This is because the bar is never near a primary sink, and there should be a water supply area in any area when serving is involved.
An undercounter refrigerator is an appliance that should be included in the bar area if the bar is located far off from the kitchen. It is usually preferable to store alcoholic beverages in a separate fridge from the primary as well.
Decorative Accents are always a nice touch to any bar. Accents such as decorative legs, corbels, fluted fillers and rosettes, clipped corners, staggered wall cabinets, and bumped out sink bases add style and definition to any bar. These accents not only highlight the bar area as a focal point, but also help to distinguish the difference between the kitchen and bar.
