How Kitchen Bars Help Create Party Perfect Kitchens

As summer comes to an end, you’ll be spending more time indoors. Fall is indoor dinner party season. There is no doubt that guests will end up in your kitchen. Your kitchen should be stylish but should also function well in social settings.

To make your kitchen a party perfect kitchen and a space that guests will love, you should incorporate a bar area.

A bar area will transform your ordinary kitchen into a destination hot spot for your guests during dinner parties.

A kitchen countertop extension, island or kitchen table can be transformed into a bar. Our upcoming blog on bar designs will explain what design and cabinetry to use in the re-design.

Prepping before the Party
Once the bar is installed, you should be sure to display these items on the bar for free access to guests before the party or gathering:

  • Ice buckets (glass vases and silver buckets work great).
  • Glasses.
  • Drink ingredients.
  • Garnishes (lemons, limes, oranges and cherries)
  • Have frozen fruits such as grapes stored at the kitchen bar as well. They go great with champagne.
  • Hors d’oeuvres

As a party host or hostess, you should always offer your guests a drink when they first arrive. Once all your guests have received a drink, the bar area should be situated as a self-serve station.

At every dinner party, you should have a signature drink. Look up season recipes or go for a party theme. One great drink is the Dark ‘n’ Stormy.

How To Make The Dark ‘N’ Stormy

  • 1 ½ Oz Gosling’s Black Seal Rum
  • Splash of bitters (optional)
  • About ½ cup ginger beer ½ lime

Use a highball glass with ice for this drink. Add rum, the splash of bitter and top it with ginger beer. A hint of lime and a stir will make this drink a party favorite.

Decorate your kitchen bar with fresh flowers, faux foods, and a mirror on the back wall (if the bar area is not in an island) to really portray the mood of a bar.

Have snacks such as popcorn, chips or nuts on hand to keep the guests entertained while you are busy working in the bar.

Kitchen bars are a must have in the kitchen for social gatherings but can also be utilized as a breakfast bar, dinner table, laptop/computer nook, or homework desk when you’re not serving drinks.
