Are you looking to renovate your kitchen? If so, Columbia Kitchens has a list of the hottest emerging kitchen design trends of 2012 which will not only update your existing kitchen, but will give it a makeover that will improve the function and style for years to come! Here’s what’s hot for 2012:
The Bold Look of Dark and Painted Finishes
The latest trends this year are on a steady move towards bolder looks. Dark and light painted finishes are what’s in, and dull and boring natural stains are out. Medium to dark finishes on maple and cherry woods are high in demand because of the warm rich feeling that they give off. White and off white paints can produce the same overall feel when a dark colored countertop is used to compliment it. Glazes often accompany a painted finish over maple, and can be the same dark espresso color as the island if a two tone look is preferred. To stay with the latest trends, you will just want to remember to go with either dark cabinets and a light colored top, or vice versa. Either way is bold, and what’s in for 2012
Use the Same Material for Your Backsplash and Countertops
A trend that is growing in popularity this year is having backsplash material be made of the same material as your countertops. Recycled glass, granite and quartz are the most popular kitchen countertops to go with right now, so why not use that same material on your backsplash. It will be as durable as the top, and will be easy to clean. You won’t have to worry about scrubbing those hard to treat grout lines with tile this way, and it will compliment your countertop surface as well. You could go with the same color everywhere, or change to a solid color on the walls. Some 2012 two tone designs include a dramatic color on the tops and behind the stove, and a solid color on the backsplash. Or, you could consider going with a bold color on the island, and a solid color in the kitchen and backsplash. Either way, you will want to add some flair to your design, and make sure that the right areas stand out boldly.
Pull-Out Faucets
No stylish countertop would be complete without having an elegant faucet to compliment it. Single lever faucets are in this year because they take up less room behind the sink, and because they are so easy to use. They not only look great, but can be the same finish as your knobs or pulls. Pull-out sprayers are less maintenance and allow you extra room to include an extra hole for a hot water or soap dispenser in your new design.
LED Lighting
Energy efficiency is not just a fad. It’s a real trend taking hold on homes across America. LED lighting is the most popular of energy efficient lighting and is commonly used in the kitchen. Use them behind glass doors accents, or underneath your wall cabinets to highlight your kitchen countertops and display items.
